10. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

If you like button-mashing and seeing all your favorite Marvel superheroes on the same screen, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is the perfect way to pass some time. Ten years after the last Marvel Ultimate Alliance entry, this long-awaited sequel expands the roster and gives Nintendo fans the power to control more than 30 of their favorite Marvel characters, not including DLC.

From the Avengers to the Guardians of the Galaxy to the X-Men, all the recognizable names are here. The combat for this beat-em-up is fairly basic — gone are the individual combos of old, and in their place is a new emphasis on coordinating combined “Extreme” attacks with your fellow teammates. While it can get tedious not being able to unleash hell all on your own as Deadpool or Black Panther, mixing and matching superpowers among teammates in high-octane attacks that devastate everything on screen is a comic book fan’s fever dream.

With challenging, unique boss battles and more downloadable characters like Cyclops, Colossus, Blade and Punisher, the replay value is fairly high, especially if you’re trying to level up all your characters on repeated playthroughs. There’s an abundance of trial modes and customization options too, though they don’t always have a direct impact on how you play the game.

The formula can get a bit stale after awhile, and the wonky camera can be aggravating, but the story keeps you fully engrossed by dropping new characters and familiar faces throughout the campaign. If you’re looking for a fun way to kill time with your favorite superheroes in a game that’s loyal to the Marvel universe, MUA3 is well worth the investment.
