2020 NFL Draft: 5 players Dolphins could take in Round 1
4. Jedrick Wills
Wills isn’t the answer for the Dolphins at left tackle, but he could walk right in and seize the starting spot at right tackle immediately. It might be a stretch to address that need at No. 5, but selecting a potential Pro Bowler at that spot could pay off nicely for Miami.
Jesse Davis certainly isn’t good enough to prevent the Dolphins from spending a high pick on a right tackle. Even if he were a quality starter, Wills has the talent to develop into an exceptional starter. The former Alabama standout has both a high floor and high ceiling.
The lack of value at the right position might cost Wills to slide well past the No. 5 overall pick though. He also may be a poor fit for the Dolphins because he doesn’t have the ceiling of an elite player. Tackle needy teams might choose to gamble on a prospect with better measurables. Don’t be shocked if Mekhi Becton finds a way to move past Wills on Day One.
That opens up the possibility that Miami could move down from their current spot in the draft and still be in a position to grab Wills a little later. That would represent a pretty big gamble by the Dolphins, but their roster has lots of holes. Outside of quarterback, grabbing a starting tackle should be this team’s biggest priority in the draft.
