3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers have plenty of cap space ($74.4 million, third-most in the league as of Monday afternoon), and as they stand as perhaps the lone outside suitor for Tom Brady they seem ready to spend. Even if they don’t get Brady, addressing a lackluster rushing attack (24th in the league last year) in support of what should be a new quarterback to replace Jameis Winston is probably on the radar.

Totally giving up on Ronald Jones is unlikely, as he enters his third season in the league. But with Peyton Barber sure to be gone, Tampa Bay should be looking for at least a more viable backup to Jones.

The Bucs could pony up for Melvin Gordon in free agency, and just make him their unquestioned No. 1 back over Jones. But if they more adroitly look at a selection of lower cost veteran running backs, and spend the brunt of their cap space elsewhere (defense, quarterback), Freeman will be worth considering now that he’s available.
