2. Titans committing big money to Ryan Tannehill

Handing out big money deals to players coming off career seasons is a great way for a GM to get fired. That’s just what the Titans front office has done with quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

To put the move into perspective, Tennessee is going to give a quarterback who couldn’t hold down a starting job with the Dolphins a deal worth $118 million over the next four years. That hardly seems like a recipe for successful roster construction.

In fairness to Tannehill, he was terrific for the Titans during the back half of the 2019 regular season. Proving to be an upgrade over Marcus Mariota doesn’t quality an NFL signal caller for stardom. Tannehill was an above average quarterback for an offensive system that made the game really easy for him.

Tennessee will do their best to continue to keep things simple for their newly minted starter. They better be successful in that regard. The minute Tannehill is asked to leave his comfort zone and make big plays he’s going to be exposed as the flawed quarterback everyone in Miami knows he is. This is a deal that could really backfire on Mike Vrabel’s team very soon.
