Third Round

The Detroit Lions learned this past season it’s time to look at life past Matthew Stafford. Some even called for them to move on from him this offseason. While that seems a little too soon, it’s definitely time to find the man who’s going to take over for him. Look no further than Oklahoma product Jalen Hurts.

There’s talk that there could be five quarterbacks going in the first round. They all have a ton of fanfare, but this has the same feeling that we felt in 2012. Some of these players could be really good, but the player who makes it the longest might be the one in the third round. We have some Russell Wilson vibes when it comes to Jalen Hurts. We know that’s a lofty goal for a quarterback before he’s taken a snap, but we see similarities to the two.

He doesn’t have the size “issues” that Wilson had, both men came into the league with scouts loving their ability to make plays. Both Hurts and Wilson were lauded for the ability to excel when the plays are breaking down. However, they both dealt with questions of their pocket presence and their decision-making process.

Hurts was even said that the third round is his “ceiling”, but we see something different. Hurts is a player that, with the right coaching, can be a very good starter in this league, even a top-15 quarterback. So, his ceiling isn’t exactly Wilson, but it’s not far off. We’re a little worried about what his prospects are with Matt Patricia as head coach, however, he’s definitely a player that can develop into a good quarterback under the tutelage of Matthew Stafford.
