2020 NFL Draft: 5 overrated prospects that will go in Round 1
2. Henry Ruggs III
It’s rare to see a wide receiver that isn’t the best wideout on his own college team be slated to go off the board in Round 1. That’s the situation Ruggs finds himself in.
Jerry Jeudy was Alabama’s best pass-catcher last year. In fairness, he and Ruggs both benefited greatly from the other receiver’s presence on the field. Neither would have put up quite as prolific numbers if opposing defenses would have been able to focus their attention on them.
The idea that Ruggs might potential go ahead of Jeudy is just silly. He is an elite guy in terms of speed, but his lack of size should be a concern for NFL teams considering him in Round 1. It’s very possible he can only play in the slot at the next level. That gives him precious little margin for error if he wants to become a Pro Bowler.
Ruggs is going to be a good player, but he’s not going to be a No. 1 receiver. He shouldn’t be drafted ahead of Jeudy, Lamb or Jefferson. Someone is going to reach and take him ahead of someone in that group based on his foot speed. Being a track star doesn’t guarantee NFL success.
