Moments

Despite some slip-ups down the stretch, Auburn still put together a successful season, featuring moments of greatness that encompassed the 2019-20 campaign.

The 15-game win streak to open the season was a clear high point. 10 matchups were by at least 10 points, and while none of them were against elite opponents, it was still a terrific way for Auburn to gain momentum.

Perhaps an odd bright spot, the Tigers reeled off three consecutive overtime wins in SEC play: Feb. 4 vs Arkansas, Feb. 8 vs LSU and Feb. 12 vs Alabama. Dropping each of those games could have set Pearl’s team back in the conference standings and dropped them to nine losses, so the margin between good and great was slim. Losing would have also created a five-game skid.

The season’s signature win came on Feb. 1 against No. 13 Kentucky. Behind 23 points from Doughty and a double-double from Wiley, Auburn walked out victoriously in the first of its three ranked matchups.

The final three weeks of the year were not impressive, though. Losing four of their last seven, the Tigers fell to the lowly Texas A&M, Georgia and Missouri, each of whom was in the middle of the pack or at the bottom of the conference. The latter two games had a double-digit margin of defeat.
