If Leonard Fournette is expendable, these teams need to call with a trade offer

57. Scouting Report. North. Chicago Bears. player. Pick Analysis. NFC. 4

Ryan Pace is having himself an offseason, isn’t he? The Chicago Bears general manager has made more questionable moves than anyone this spring, just out of arm’s reach of whatever Bill O’Brien is doing to his Houston Texans. If they already traded for Nick Foles’ albatross of a salary, why not also pick up the guy who Foles was supposed to hand the ball off to last year in Duval anyway?

Foles only played parts of four games for the Jaguars last season, losing all four of his starts. Fournette still managed to rush for over 1,000 yards with rookie Gardner Minshew as his primary starter. Add in that he improved drastically as a receiver out of the backfield and this could be a solid pickup for the Bears who need to figure out what they are doing on offense.

Fate would have it the Bears have another former top-five pick on their roster from the same 2017 NFL Draft that sent Fournette to North Florida. Not saying Mitchell Trubisky to the Jaguars as a most glorious, tank-tastic trade as a high-priced backup to Minshew will work, but the numbers might work. Plus, Jacksonville should be able to pick up a pick or two in this trade.

In terms of what the Bears already have in the backfield, they have players like Tarik Cohen, David Montgomery and Ryan Nall. There’s a lot to like about any of the three, but none of them will ever be bell-cow backs in this league. If Jacksonville would prefer one of them and a pick instead of Trubisky, this might be a trade partner the Jaguars have to consider. It’s already worked out before!
