Third Round

TCU Horned Frogs. Lucas Niang. 872. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. OT. 73

At his very essence, Doug Marrone is an offensive line coach. Since arriving in Jacksonville after strangely parting ways with the Buffalo Bills years ago, Jacksonville has had an underrated and overperforming offensive line. Center Brandon Linder is the unit’s best player, while left tackle Cameron Robinson has the most talent. However, Jacksonville needs a tackle here in the draft.

Look for the Jaguars to take someone like Lucas Niang out of TCU with the No. 73 overall pick in the third round. Niang may not be as good as the handful of left tackles who will surely go in the first round, but he’s pretty undervalued all things considered here in the third round. Had he not gotten injured midway through his college career, Niang would be a no-doubt, top-50 pick.

Niang is a beast at 6-foot-7 and 328 pounds. This is the ideal frame someone like Marrone can work with to have him play either tackle spot along his offensive line. You cannot teach that size and Niang could be a tremendous value play here for the Jaguars with their second of two day-two picks in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Overall, Jacksonville will enter day three of the draft with many of their key needs filled. Though they need to get a tight end, it makes more sense for them to pursue one in the fourth round when more are expected to come off the board. But to get a 6-foot-7 offensive tackle who is slightly undervalued, you have to love a move like this if you’re Jacksonville.
