Second Round

QB. Washington Huskies. 42. Scouting Report. Jacob Eason. player. 818. Pick Analysis

Truthfully, the Jaguars may want to wait until the 2021 NFL Draft to draft their next franchise quarterback. However, it’s not like they’ve had any success taking a signal-caller in the first round before. If you want proof, just look at Byron Leftwich, Blaine Gabbert and Blake Bortles. None of them hold their own with the likes of Mark Brunell, David Garrard or even Minshew’s mystique.

But with a former five-star recruit out of high school possibly still being on the board at No. 42, how can you pass up the next Joe Flacco in Jacob Eason out of the University of Washington? Flacco gets dumped on a ton, but he was at one time elite, and especially in the AFC playoffs, something the Jaguars are aspiring to accomplish. Flacco was also a former first-rounder, too.

At 6-foot-6 and 227 pounds, he has the size and the arm strength Minshew cannot compete with. Eason has played at two traditional powers in college, first with the Georgia Bulldogs before transferring back home to play for the Washington Huskies. Together, Minshew and Eason will push each other to get better. Plus, we all want to see how they interact during the Apple Cup.

Eason only had two years’ worth of starts in college coming three years apart. However, we’ve seen new Jaguars offensive coordinator Jay Gruden do tremendous things with a former second-round quarterback in Andy Dalton when he was the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator. Eason has a shot to still go in the first round, but he’s an absolute steal here at No. 42 overall.
