Second Round

LB. 46. player. 817. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. LSU. Patrick Queen

Many Broncos fans would feel their prayers have been answered if the team uses a high pick to nab a linebacker. Patrick Queen is the next LSU linebacker prospect in a strong line of recent NFL talent. As the Tigers made a National Championship run, he tallied 85 tackles, an interception and three pass breakups. He was a stud on a stellar college team.

Queen jumps off the screen on tape due to his athletic ability. He plays fast and physical, and with a mindset that he’s the best player on the field. Queen is able to digest a play quickly, flowing to the proper spots in order to make a play on the ball. He has a remarkably high ceiling in the NFL thanks to his ability to make clean and aggressive open-field tackles.

With the ability to lead and command a defense, Queen would be a welcome addition as an inside linebacker in Denver. He is also versatile enough to cover tight ends or running backs.

At times, Queen does wait for pulling guards to reach him rather than beating them to the spot, and that will have to be improved upon. In college he also relied on the big linemen upfront taking on bodies to create open space for him to make a play.

With the talent of offensive linemen across the NFL, that won’t always be the case now. Queen though, will be able to learn from players like Von Miller on how to adapt and sustain a long-term career if he is drafted by the Broncos.
