5 NFL teams who could trade for Curtis Samuel
2. Washington Redskins
Terry McLaurin showed he’s a keeper last year as a rookie, leading the Redskins in catches (58), yards (919) and touchdowns (seven). No one else reached 400 receiving yards, and running back Chris Thompson was the only other player to top 40 receptions.
If not for Steven Sims’ emergence late (16 receptions and four touchdowns over the final three games; at least seven targets in each of the final four games), the gap between McLaurin and the next most productive wide receiver would have been even more stark.
Cody Latimer is the only addition Washington has made at wide receiver to this point. That sets quarterback Dwayne Haskins up to fail, with a lack of playmakers around him besides McLaurin and perhaps Sims.
Samuel is of course plenty familiar to the new coaching staff in Washington. Head coach Ron Rivera and offensive coordinator Scott Turner worked with him just last year in Carolina, and it’s worth noting Kyle Allen has been acquired via trade with some chance to beat out Haskins for the starting job.
Of course, Allen was not very good last year when he started a lot of games for the Panthers, but familiarity is there in regard to Samuel’s potential fit.
The Redskins are in dire need of better skill position talent, and wide receiver in particular is a need. If they buy into an opportunity to rise quickly in the NFC East this year, a trade for Samuel easily becomes possible.
