4. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are firmly committed to Philip Rivers as their starting quarterback this year. But the future beyond that is uncertain for them, with general manager Chris Ballard confirming the jury is out on Jacoby Brissett right after last season ended.

The Colts gave up the 13th overall pick to get DeForest Buckner from the San Francisco 49ers. But they have two picks in the top half of the second round (No. 34 and No. 44), so if someone they want falls into the late first round they have the capital to move up and get him.

Quarterback is surely on Indianapolis’ draft radar, and if they stand pat it seems certain they’ll take one in the second or third round. There’s a chance, however remote, that Love falls out of the first round and right into their laps at No. 34 after the Bengals make their pick at 33.

Love is making the jump from the Mountain West to the NFL. So it’s widely assumed he shouldn’t be rushed into the lineup, and spending his rookie season on the bench is the optimal scenario for him. The Colts can provide that, and Rivers is the ideal mentor as Love learns the offense run by Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni.
