Detroit Lions Draft Trades If Chase Young Is On The Board

The less ideal scenario for the Lions is if Joe Burrow and Tua go 1, 2 in the draft. Though, there is still some intrigue here and certainly the potential for the team to move down.

This scenario could make teams like the Chargers, Jaguars or Raiders more antsy to move up to secure the number three quarterback on their board: Jordan Love or Justin Herbert. The other thing that it does is creating a bidding war for the near-consensus best player in the draft, edge rusher Chase Young.

What trades make the most sense in a world where the top two quarterbacks are gone?

For Herbert (or Love):

  1. LA Chargers trade picks 6, 37 and a 2021 2nd round pick to Detroit for #3 overall.
  2. Jacksonville Jaguars trade picks 9, 42 and a 2021 2nd round pick to Detroit for #3 overall.
  3. Miami Dolphins trade picks 5, 39 and 70 to Detroit for #3 overall.
  4. Las Vegas Raiders trade picks 12 and 19 to Detroit for #3 overall.
  5. New England Patriots trade picks 23, 87, 100, and 2021 1st and 2nd round picks to Detroit for #3 overall.

For Young (or Okudah):

  1. Jacksonville (see above)
  2. Arizona Cardinals trade picks 8, 72 and a 2021 second round pick.
  3. Carolina Panthers trade 7, 38 and 148.

None of us know precisely what will happen on draft day. But, what we can be assured of is that the Detroit Lions are in a prime spot to choose either the best defender in the draft, or trade down and stock up on much desired number one picks. The Lions will not be stuck in a position where they won’t get a player they want and/or cannot trade down…and no one can ask for a better spot than that heading into the draft.
