2nd Round

player. 860. Denzel Mims. WR. Baylor. 53. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Will Denzel Mims be available at 53? We’ve seen mock drafts with him lasting until the 60s, and other having him going in the 20s. With this year’s draft, teams don’t have the ability to fall in love with a player’s skills, and that’s the kind of player the Mims is.

When teams look at the biggest game of his career, the Big 12 Championship Game against Oklahoma, they see he had zero catches, and his only catch of the day was negated by a penalty. The go-to guy was negated in the biggest game of his team’s season.

He has an insane amount of skill. He’s stepped up in big games in previous seasons (11 catches, 192 yards and three touchdowns his sophomore year against Oklahoma), but scouts may have recency bias in such a strange draft year. We’ll see really good players fall in drafts, especially at wide receiver.

Now, let’s talk about the fit Mims has at receiver. His size is something that can be devastating for opposing defenses. A lot of experts have comped him to DeSean Jackson, whom the Eagles already have. Now, remember what Carson Wentz looked like with Jackson? Imagine that, but without the injuries. Jackson’s only full game with the Eagles last year saw him catch eight passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns.

Mims can be that guy week in and week out. Maybe not those crazy stats, but he gives Wentz that option to go deep every play that puts opposing defenses on their heels. Getting that in the second round is huge.
