Dallas continues to add to the secondary in the second round with a quickly-ascending safety prospect, Minnesota’s Antoine Winfield Jr.

Winfield Jr. has been on a path to become a productive NFL player since he was just a kid, following in the footsteps of his Pro Bowl father. Here’s a bit of my reasoning for Winfield’s fit in my last Cowboys seven-round mock:

"He won’t wow from an athleticism or measurables standpoint, but Winfield can make up for some of these deficiencies as a fearless and extremely instinctual player. To be fair, it probably helps that he’s been watching NFL game film since he was 11 years old. New defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist had an up-close look at Winfield Jr.’s game as part of P.J. Fleck’s staff in 2017, and could serve as a good intel pipeline for the Cowboys as a result. If his 2019 season is any indication, Winfield Jr.’s best football could be ahead of him. Medicals will be critical to where he ends up being drafted, but Dallas could hit big in the second round if he can stay healthy."

Those aforementioned medicals are what will decide if Winfield Jr is a top 50 pick because he’s without a doubt a top 50 talent. The Cowboys could strike gold here with his selection if Alabama’s Xavier McKinney or LSU’s Grant Delpit don’t strike their fancy.
