The Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Mike McCarthy. Can a strong 2020 draft class be the boost to get America’s Team back to the Super Bowl?

The Jason Garrett era in Dallas came to a sputtering end last season and the team soon turned to longtime Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy to take his place.

There is plenty of talent all over the Cowboys roster but is it enough to compete for a Super Bowl in an increasingly-tough NFC? A strong draft will be critical to maximizing the team’s championship window, so let’s find out how they address the roster’s holes with this seven-round mock draft.

1st round

Wide receiver or cornerback seems to be the target with the Cowboys’ first-round selection. If Florida’s C.J. Henderson is off the board, they could stay in the SEC for LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton.

Fulton has already had quite a bit of contact with Dallas during the pre-draft process and it’s easy to see why the team would love to add the former Tiger to their defense. He had an up-and-down college career off the field but Fulton’s size and ability in man coverage make him an ideal replacement for Byron Jones.

Re-signing Amari Cooper makes wide receiver less of an immediate need than in the secondary where the loss of Jones could spell disaster for Dallas, especially if they get bit by the injury bug. Edge rusher is another possibility (like LSU’s K’Lavon Chaisson) but ultimately I think they go with a cornerback at this spot.
