5 bold predictions for Dallas Cowboys in 2020
3. Ezekiel Elliott’s workload will be reduced
Elliott paced the Cowboys rushing attack with 301 carries for 1,357 yards last season. Add in his 54 catches for 420 yards and it’s easy to see just how important he was to the team’s offense a season ago.
He’s still going to be really important in McCarthy’s new offense. The Cowboys’ new head coach will understand the importance of keeping Elliott fresh though. That’s why the talented running back is going to see the ball less in 2020.
Limiting him to somewhere around 250 carries should help him be more productive down the stretch. The Cowboys need to enjoy playoff success to satisfy Jones this season. They can’t achieve that goal without Elliott in top condition.
Don’t overlook the importance of Tony Pollard in this equation either. He is one of the more productive backup running backs in the NFL. There is a drop off between he and Elliott, but he’s more than capable of carrying the load for Dallas in brief stretches.
