Home: Denver Broncos

It’s embarrassing just how far the Chargers fell last season. They not only lost their season series to the Chiefs, but they also went 0-for-2 against the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders. Any team has to master their divisional opponents if they want to be counted among the league’s elite, and the Chargers simply have to get back to dominating the lesser-thans in the AFC West.

Unfortunately the Broncos have actually enjoyed a very nice offseason despite the presence of John Elway in the front office. They swapped out A.J. Bouye for Chris Harris, and they traded for Jurrell Casey while retaining Shelby Harris. They also brought in Graham Glasgow to further bolster the offensive line, which should make them stronger where it matters most on both sides of the ball. (It should also be noted here that the whole Melvin Gordon revenge factor could come into play.)

However, nothing matters as much as the development of Drew Lock and it’s here that the Broncos might have the edge over the Chargers if the Bolts end up starting a rookie. Lock has a potentially high ceiling and the Broncos will rise or fall depending on how well he develops in his second season. The Chargers need to be a stumbling block for the sophomore if they want to climb out of the basement themselves.
