The Kansas City Chiefs asked Patrick Mahomes who he wanted them to draft with the 32nd pick in the NFL Draft and he responded “Clyde Edwards-Helaire.”

Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid agreed on what new offensive weapon they wanted to add to their team in the NFL Draft but they wisely decided to consult with their All-Pro quarterback before pulling the trigger.

It turns out, all three men were on the same page.

In a video released by the Chiefs, Veach and Reid can be seen talking to Edwards-Helaire about their decision to select him. As if getting selected in the first round of the NFL Draft wasn’t reward enough, Veach and Reid revealed that the reigning Super Bowl MVP wanted Edwards-Helaire in his backfield.

“We asked Pat Mahomes, ‘Who do you want?’ and he picked you,” Reid tells Edwards-Helaire in the video.

Veach backed up Reid’s comment and provided even more detail.

“Coach and I were thinking your way,” said Veach. “Then we texted Pat and I asked Pat, I said ‘Give me a name.’ I said ‘Don’t think about it.’ he said ‘Clyde.’

Mahomes has to be happy with the pick. Edwards-Helaire is a dynamic weapon who can carry the ball between the tackles but is also a force in the passing game. With defenses already having to account for the likes of Tyreek Hill, Travis Kecle, and Sammy Watkins, Edwards-Helaire just adds another deadly ingredient to al already potent Chiefs offense.
