New York Jets

The Jets hierarchy has rarely received praise in recent times but general manager Joe Douglas is worthy of plaudits for his first draft with the team.

Mekhi Becton’s failed drug test was a red flag but he insists he has learned from that mistake, per Pro Football Talk, and there is no doubt the mountainous tackle has the ability to keep Sam Darnold clean for a long time.

Darnold also must be happy with the weapons Douglas put around him. Denzel Mims’ incredible catch radius provides a failsafe against off-target throws from the Jets signal-caller. Lamical Perine is a threat as a runner and receiver out of the backfield and could eat into Le’Veon Bell’s workload.

Quarterback James Morgan may have been something of a reach in the fourth round but, after trotting out Trevor Siemian and Luke Falk last season, investing in a capable backup was an important move for the Jets.

On the defensive side of the ball, safety Ashtyn Davis, one of the draft’s mystery men having not worked out at the Combine, offers safety-corner versatility and is a potential successor to Marcus Maye, whose contract is up after the 2020 season.

Jabari Zuniga’s arrival is a welcome boost to the pass rush with his ability to pressure the quarterback from the edge and the interior. If Bryce Hall can stay healthy, then the Jets could have a starting corner at the cheap price of a fifth-round pick.
