CHICAGO BEARS

Let’s stay in the NFC North for the final entry and that’s the Chicago Bears. It was bad enough that the Bears opted to go with a tight end with their first pick (which came in round two, as they’re still paying off their debt for the Khalil Mack trade), but the Bears’ entire draft was rather odd.

They did nab cornerback Jaylon Johnson in the second round and Kindle Vildor – another cornerback – in round five, which was a big position of need for the Bears, so that was a positive for this team. Still, they failed to find a solid safety to lock down the middle of the field and also should have drafted a quarterback.

Let’s be honest – Mitchell Trubisky isn’t the answer in the Windy City and Nick Foles proved with his contract in Jacksonville that he’s nothing more than a very good backup. The Bears should have spent one of their earlier picks on a player who could potentially replace Trubisky in the future, but instead used one of them on a tight end.

Chicago now HAS to select a quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft and perhaps that was their plan heading into this year’s was to give Trubisky one more year and then find his replacement, but it feels like that tight end pick could have been spent on either a safety or a signal-caller.
