3. Devin Singletary

Singletary split carries with Frank Gore during his rookie season, but he’s heading into training camp as the No. 1 running back in 2020. He’s not going to carry the load all by himself this season, but he needs to step up and prove that he’s the Bills’ top option in the offensive backfield.

He certainly showed flashes of brilliance last season. Singletary averaged 5.1 yards per carry on a healthy 151 attempts. Add in 29 catches out of the backfield and it’s easy to see why the Bills’ coaching staff was willing to let Gore walk in free agency.

The biggest question Singletary needs to answer is whether or not he can handle 200 plus carries. He’s a small back who runs with a relatively low center of gravity. That allows him to avoid a lot of contact, but he still lacks the frame and pounds to handle a full 16 game workload on his own.

Instead, the key for Singletary will be to increase his workload modestly while maintaining the efficiency that made him such a big contributor as a rookie. Carrying the ball 200 times and rushing for over 1,000 yards would be enough to power the Bills to double-digit wins again.
