NFL Schedule 2020: Breaking down the primetime games
Sunday Night Football: Worst games
The schedule-makers are sure keen to showcase their new stadiums this season and that has led to the Los Angeles Rams and Las Vegas Raiders combining to host four Sunday night games. Seeing the Rams get that much national exposure is surprising since the team is markedly worse than it was a year ago, and games against the Cowboys and 49ers won’t help.
The Raiders draw the Chiefs and Buccaneers on NBC, meaning they will have to be playing catchup for most of the night. Those games could turn into blowouts early, leading to a nightmare for NBC where people are changing the channel at halftime.
The NFL also took a few chances later in the season, scheduling games featuring potential up-and-comers like the Denver Broncos, who travel to Kansas City for a date with the Chiefs. The Bears also make a trip to Lambeau in late November to take on the Packers in a rivalry game that could be seriously one-sided if Mitchell Trubisky continues to regress.
On paper, a lot of the Sunday night matchups seem good to go, but there is some serious bust potential due to the league’s insistence on showcasing its fanciest new stadiums. That is a tad problematic for the NFL’s marquee broadcast package.
