Pick Analysis. AFC. East. 47. Scouting Report. New England Patriots. 2. player

The Patriots went from never being on these lists to now always being included on them. There was a lot of buzz this offseason that either Dalton or Cam Newton would land with the Patriots (and in all fairness, Newton still could go to Foxborough), but Dalton chose a different path.

No one truly believes that Jarrett Stidham is the next franchise quarterback in New England and as a result, someone like Dalton could wind up being their starter next year. One would have to think the Patriots would take a quarterback early in the 2021 NFL Draft, but one would also think they’d have done so this year and they didn’t draft a single quarterback.

Dalton would be set up to succeed in New England with Bill Belichick as his head coach and Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator (assuming he’s still there this time next year). Unlike what he had in Cincinnati, Dalton would be surrounded by an organization who cares and wants to win games.

What the Patriots do at the quarterback position hinges on how Stidham looks in his first true season under fire. If he’s serviceable, then the Patriots still look to bring a backup in, but if he flames out – like many expect him to do – then Dalton could be a nice option for 2021.
