Miami Dolphins

After much deliberation and waiting, the Dolphins finally got their man at quarterback. With the No. 5 overall pick, the Dolphins took Tua Tagovailoa and, hopefully, ended their search for a franchise quarterback in the process.

Tagovailoa may not play all of 2020, but this is a pick with the future in mind. If he plays to his potential, the Dolphins may have the best quarterback in the draft class, something that doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility.

The Dolphins may have stretched themselves in an effort to provide some protection for Tagovailoa, paying Ereck Flowers a monstrous $10 million per year for the next three seasons, as well as selecting Austin Jackson in the first round – a selection that could be construed as a reach.

Elsewhere, the Dolphins continued to spend aggressively. They signed the best cornerback in the market in Byron Jones, who will form one of the NFL’s best duos with Xavien Howard, and added Kyle Van Noy, Emmanuel Ogbah and Shaq Lawson for good measure.

The additions of Jordan Howard and Matt Brieda to the backfield give the Dolphins an option of running between the tackles or bouncing to the outside in a diverse backfield. The pieces are being put into place, but everything rests on the progression of their franchise quarterback over the next few years.
