The Bengals stood pat with the No.1 overall pick and took the consensus pick in Joe Burrow. A national champion and holder of the Heisman trophy, Burrow completed the best college football season a quarterback has ever produced in 2019, throwing for 60 touchdowns and completing 76 percent of his passes.

They may yet trade away star wideout, A.J. Green, after applying the franchise tag to him but for now, Burrow has a strong receiver corp in his rookie year.

The defense lost Andrew Billings but gained a better player in D.J. Reader and he’ll improve an already stout defensive front that includes Geno Atkins and Carlos Dunlap. The front office also added cornerbacks Mackensie Alexander and Trae Waynes.

Both were average according to Pro Football Focus, but it’s necessary talent for a team looking to move in the right direction. However, if Burrow becomes the franchise quarterback, the small details of this offseason won’t matter nearly as much.

Had the Bengals found a way to keep Andy Dalton around to mentor their franchise quarterback, their offseason might have been perfect.
