Darqueze Dennard, Cornerback

If Kansas City is not in the market for someone as expensive as Ryan might be, another option on is former Cincinnati Bengal cornerback Darqueze Dennard.

Dennard is a 28-year-old former first-round draft pick who fits the bill for what Veach looks for in free agents: a former high-draft pick who has underachieved and who may benefit from a new environment. The Chiefs have consistently does this with players like Emmanuel Ogbah in 2019, and now Taco Charlton this year.

Dennard is a 5-foot-11, 200-pound corner who fits the frame for what Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo looks at the position. He has underachieved significantly in Cincinnati, failing to start 25 games in six seasons.

However, the talent is there. If anyone can maximize his talent, Spagnuolo and the Chiefs can – they’ve gotten a lot out of a little in terms of cornerback investment.

Dennard is likely to sign a cheap, one-year deal in order to attempt to increase his market value in the 2021 offseason –  perfect for the Super Bowl champs aiming for a repeat.
