4. Derek Barnett

Every legitimate Super Bowl contender needs a ferocious pass rush. The Eagles need their group to be led by Barnett. He’s enjoyed some measure of success since coming into the NFL, but they need 2020 to be his breakout season.

Interestingly, it’s also a contract year for the former Tennessee star. He should really benefit from the addition of Javon Hargrave at defensive tackle. Hargrave isn’t the most consistent tackle in the league, but he’s a terrific pass rusher on obvious passing downs.

It’s time for Barnett to show his coaching staff that he’s capable of giving them double-digit sacks on a regular basis. He should be able to make that happen in 2020 if he can stay healthy. The fact that he played 14 games in 2019 does bode well for Barnett in that department.

The addition of Slay to the mix should pay big dividends for Barnett as well. The extra second good coverage can give pass rushers is especially important to a rusher like Barnett who relies more on technique and skill than explosion. He has to play like a Pro Bowler this year to help the Eagles maximize their potential.
