5 players who Eagles need to be great in 2020
The Eagles believe they have the roster talent to win a Super Bowl title. They’ll need big seasons from these five guys to accomplish that goal.
Credit the Eagles for making big moves in the offseason. Spending big in free agency has Philadelphia in position to challenge for a Super Bowl title this season. The team needs to make a deep postseason run to justify all of its offseason spending.
The good news for Doug Pederson and his coaching staff is that the roster is well positioned for a strong campaign. Carson Wentz is the team’s biggest offensive star and there’s hope that he and his weapons can stay healthy in 2020. If they do, there’s no reason to believe the Eagles offseason can’t improve on last year’s scoring average of 24.1 points per game.
Swinging a deal for Darius Slay should fix the defense’s major weakness from 2019. If he can solidify the secondary it could make the team’s front seven even more effective. The edge rushing tandem of Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett should be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.
Anything less than a Lombardi Trophy will qualify as a failure for the Eagles this year. To secure that sort of glory, the Eagles need big seasons from the following five players.
5. Jalen Reagor
The Eagles reached for Reagor with their first round pick and that means he’s got sky high expectations coming into his rookie campaign. He has to make an immediate impact on this offense if it’s going to take a major step forward in 2020.
Look for Pederson and his offensive staff to get Reagor the ball in a variety of ways. He’ll be a factor in conventional pass patters, but he’ll also touch the ball via screens and even some action from the backfield. It’s crucial that Reagor make some big plays this year to take the pressure off the veterans playing alongside him at receiver. He can’t afford to endure a redshirt season if the Eagles are going to enjoy a special season.
