4. Thomas Davis

Rivera knows that establishing the right culture is imperative if he wants to set the Redskins up for future success. That’s why he made the move to sign Davis in free agency. Washington wants him to be a role model for their young players as well as a quality force at middle linebacker.

The Redskins don’t need him to play like a Pro Bowler. They simply need Davis to play well enough to command respect in the locker room. Rivera knows what a powerful force he can be from their days together in Carolina.

The good news for Davis is that the talent on the Washington defensive line should make his job pretty straightforward. His main responsibilities will be to get everyone lined up correctly and then make the tackles required to stop runs up the middle. Anything else the Redskins get from him on the field this year will be a bonus.

Davis isn’t a building block of Washington’s future, but he should be a spiritutal and emotional leader for the team in 2020. That makes him a subtly important guy for Rivera in his first season in charge.
