Tua Tagovailoa edges Tom Brady for NFL’s best-selling jersey
Tua and Tom Brady are at the top of the leaderboard when it comes to the best-selling NFL jerseys. The Dolphins and Buccaneers quarterback hold 7/10 spots.
This was an offseason to remember in the NFL. It signaled the end of Tom Brady‘s tenure in New England, as he decided to take his talents to Tampa Bay and brought his pal Rob Gronkowski with him.
Not to be outdone in their own state, the Dolphins made it a point to bring in a potential star too, drafting Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Brady landing with Tampa Bay and Tua getting drafted by the Dolphins made Florida very popular when it came to jersey sales with these two grabbing seven of the 10 spots on the jersey sales list.
Tua has the top two spots, which is impressive for the rookie, followed by Brady who takes the next four as Buccaneers fans are buying every version of his jersey. A fifth Brady alternate uniform comes in at No. 10.
It’s worth noting two other spots on this list were Gronkowski, who came out of retirement to reunite with Brady on the Bucs. Florida dominated the list, but no one should be surprised by Brady taking up half the list.
Buccaneers fans have been waiting a long time to have someone like Brady on their team, so of course, they’re going to buy up all of his jerseys. The Bucs would have probably been playoff contenders this season even without Brady, but he definitely puts them over the top. Patriots fans probably bought a lot of Brady jerseys as well, as they’re clearly going to want to support him in his future endeavors.
As for the Dolphins and Tua, he provides that organization with something they’ve been longing for since Dan Marino retired. Tua gives them hope for the future and it’s no surprise his jersey claimed the top two spots on the list.
Tua might have been the top two spots in jersey sales, but Brady claimed half the spots on the list. The fact that his fifth highest-selling jersey was more than that of Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson is baffling.
The only non-Florida player to appear in the top 10 was Bengals rookie quarterback Joe Burrow, Burrow went ahead of Tua in the NFL Draft and beat him when LSU met Alabama last year, but Tua gets him here with the top two spots with Burrow checking in at No. 8.
The rest of the list is all Florida and with a six-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback, a three-time Super Bowl-winning tight end, and the fifth overall draft pick all landing in Florida, it’s no surprise to see them own this jersey sales list.
Florida has suddenly become the capital of the NFL world, at least when it comes to jersey sales.
