Five overrated NCAA basketball teams getting too much love.

We hope with bated breath that the 2020-2021 college hoops season will kick off on time as last season was so abruptly taken from us due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In anticipation of games going off without a hitch, everyone’s favorite offseason task of compiling way-too-early top-25 lists is in full swing.

Every year these lists offer much fodder for back and forth banter – some teams are too high, some teams are too low, and some are just right. Some teams will come out of nowhere, like Dayton and San Diego St. from this past season, to exceed even the most ambitious of preseason prognostications. And some will fail to live up to the expectations imposed upon them in the preseason, like Michigan St. early on in 2019-2020.

It’s this latter contingent with which we are concerned here for the 2020-2021 season. Surely there are teams situated at such heights in the FanSided way-too-early top-25 rankings as to be set up for fool’s gold.

It’s not that we believe the following teams will be bad this season. Certainly, any team returning or bringing in enough talent to be considered top-25 caliber at this point in time is likely to be set up to prosper. However, with this contingent, we’re pumping the brakes just a touch relative to our rankings.
