The quarterback position scores, on average, the most fantasy points for your team. A good, reliable quarterback can make or break your team. Here are two players to avoid at their current draft position.

Tom Brady (currently ranked as: QB8): Listen, I get the hype. As a Tampa Bay resident and New York Jets fan, I am excited for TB12 to be suiting up in a Bucs uniform this season. Tom certainly has something to prove. But, currently being drafted as a QB8 seems a little high for me. I am certain in some leagues, the hype surrounding Tom will lead to him being drafted as QB5, which is too high for someone that doesn’t get you any rushing yards, leading to Tom having a low-floor for fantasy points. Not to mention that Tom will also be 43 years old on August 3rd. Don’t get me wrong though, if I were a betting man, I would bet that Tom will have a good season. I mean come on, he’s Tom freakin’ Brady, but right now I don’t see the value in drafting him this high in drafts. I would much rather prefer someone like Josh Allen (QB7) or Carson Wentz (QB10), who are currently being drafted right around where Tom is projected.

Lamar Jackson (currently ranked as: QB1): I know, I know, I am crazy. “Lamar Jackson just had the best fantasy season for a quarterback ever”. “Did you not see him torch defenses for 1200+ rushing yards and HE’S A QUARTERBACK??” I get it, I get it. Lamar Jackson carried one of my fantasy teams last year, as I am sure he carried many other teams to a fantasy championship. So, then why am I trying to avoid him? Well it’s simple. In your fantasy football drafts, you are looking for value. You aren’t trying to ‘reach’ for a player and draft them too early. Personally, I like to wait for quarterbacks in my leagues. There is no reason to draft a quarterback in the first/second/third round when you could easily find a mid-tier quarterback in a later round that could (1) have a breakout season and be a top 5 fantasy QB and/or (2) be a consistent starter for your team who you can count on every week. I don’t expect Lamar to have a repeat season in 2020, and right now he is being drafted like he will repeat what he did last year. In previous seasons, we have seen quarterbacks take a step back in their second full season starting, and I believe more teams will follow what the Titans did in the playoffs to confuse and limit Lamar’s abilities. I recognize Lamar is a special talent and if he ends up on your team, you won’t be disappointed. I just prefer a top tier RB/WR/TE over a top tier QB. There’s much more depth at the quarterback position. Seek value elsewhere.

Now on to some running backs that I want no part of at their current ADP (average draft position).
