Cleveland Browns

There has been a lot of speculation linking the Browns with free agent edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney, who remains on the market despite a stellar 2019 with the Seattle Seahawks.

Jones would come at a significantly higher cost but, in the long term, dealing for him may be the more astute move.

Starting defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi is set to hit the open market next offseason. By acquiring Jones, the Browns would land a player who is a definitive upgrade and ensure at least a season of that pair playing together on the interior.

The Browns lead the NFL in available cap space with $37.4m and making an already fearsome defensive front even more intimidating by trading for Jones and signing him to a lucrative deal would be a prudent use of that room.

Cleveland has an extension for Myles Garrett to think about. However, Garrett is not a free agent until 2022, giving them time to kick the can down the road if they wish.

A defensive line featuring both Garrett and Jones is a terrifying prospect for opposing offenses and striking a trade with the Chiefs would be a massive step towards a bounce-back year for the Browns in their first season under Kevin Stefanski.
