4. Buffalo Bills

It’s chips to the middle of the table time in Buffalo and the Bills demonstrated as much prior to this year’s draft, dealing a first-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings for Stefon Diggs.

Buffalo will hope that move can help quarterback Josh Allen take the next step in his development. It is the defense, though, that is likely to put the Bills in contention for a championship.

Team building in the NFL is as much about building on strengths as it is about minimizing weaknesses. There could be no better way for the Bills to build on their strength on defense than by trading for Jones.

The Bills have talent at every level of the defense. Ed Oliver is an ascending interior rusher while second-round pick A.J. Epenesa joins a pair of veteran edge rushers in Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison.

Athletic monster Tremaine Edmunds is only scratching the surface of what he can do in the pros while All-Pro corner Tre’Davious White is the headline act in an excellent secondary.

Pairing Jones with Oliver could be the final piece of the puzzle for the defense and help Leslie Frazier’s group put Allen in even more advantageous situations. With $19.4m available to them, cap space isn’t a problem for the Bills, but a bigger issue for Buffalo might be convincing Kansas City to trade Jones to a fellow contender in their own conference.
