The NFL may be the most cut throat league in professional sports. That’s why these five head coaches are beginning 2020 on the hot seat.

NFL coaches are expected to get their teams up and running in very short order. The ones that can’t find a way to get that done find themselves unemployed. No one should expect the 2020 regular season to be any different once it finally begins.

Any coach that isn’t in their first year who isn’t presiding over a potential playoff team should be concerned about their job status. The same can be said for experienced coaches who can’t quite find a way to get their team to the promised land of the Super Bowl.

This season features quite a few coaches that could get fired early in the regular season. This piece will identify the five men most likely to get their pink slip first. Fans of these five teams should be preparing for regime change.

5. Adam Gase

Gase piloted the Jets to an utterly mediocre 7-9 record in 2019. Expectations in New York are raised due to the idea that Sam Darnold should play more games in 2020.

If the Jets stumble out of the gates then Gase will immediately start facing a ton of questions. He didn’t exactly arrive in the Big Apple with a stellar resume. The idea that veterans like Le’Veon Bell and Jamal Adams don’t seem to be thrilled with his coaching and it’s easy to see how things could get ugly.

The Jets front office doesn’t want to fire Gase, but they’re not going to let the season go off the rails either. The idea of axing him in favor of an offensive-minded coach who can help get Darnold back on track could tempt the Jets to make an early change.

It should never be a surprise to see a New York based team make a quick change. The Jets don’t want to finish first on this list, but Gase will begin the season under serious pressure.
