Jadeveon Clowney probably wishes he had Kyle Shanahan’s agent, huh? While the former remains unsigned amid a teeth-gnashing offseason rife with financial squabbles, the latter may as well be set for life after some very happy news Monday.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers have secured the services of their head coach for the next six seasons after both parties agreed to a new contract.

Shanahan was already signed through 2022, but this deal gives him a pay bump by reworking the remaining three seasons and adding three more. Schefter notes that the deal places Shahanan, who led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance in February, among the five highest-paid coaches in the NFL.

After two losing seasons by the Bay, Shanahan improved his overall regular-season record to 23-25 thanks to a terrific 13-3 campaign in 2019 that included the first two playoff wins of his head coaching career. And at just 40 years of age, the odds are in favor of this man’s greatest work still being ahead of him.

Sure, the haters will point to the 28-3 lead he helped to blow in Super Bowl LI as offensive coordinator of the Falcons, as well as February’s double-digit advantage that evaporated at the hands of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs — but you can bet that such misadventures played zero role in CEO Jed York and general manager John Lynch’s urge to pull the trigger on this healthy extension.

With a vicious defense, a franchise quarterback, and an arsenal of young skill players prepared to announce themselves fully, things have got to be feeling bright out in Santa Clara for not just 2020, but the years to come under their well-paid boss.
