Nebraska football achieves bowl eligibility well before Halloween.

Oct. 3: at Northwestern Wildcats (Evanston, IL)

882. Prediction. 38. 810. 20

With four September wins, the Cornhuskers will be playing with all the confidence in the world. Even though they have to play the Northwestern Wildcats on the road, that won’t stop Nebraska from rolling to an easy 5-0 victory. Martinez has another signature game and starts to force himself into the Heisman Trophy conversation, albeit prematurely. Nebraska, 38-20.

Oct. 10: Illinois Fighting Illini

24. 810. Prediction. 21. 807

Perfect through five games, the Cornhuskers will have their shot to do something they hadn’t done since 2016 by achieving bowl eligibility. No, the Cornhuskers will not play a great football game vs. the Illinois Fighting Illini. If this game were in Champaign-Urbana, it would go the Illini’s way. By the sheer will of the Blackshirts, Nebraska gets it done is going bowling. Nebraska, 24-21.

Oct. 17: Bye

Oct. 24: at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (Piscataway, NJ)

Fresh off a bye and achieving bowl eligibility, Nebraska finds itself ranked firmly inside the top-25 for the first time in years. A road date at the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will be win No. 7 for the Cornhuskers, but Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano exposes a fatal flaw in Nebraska’s team construct that will wreck them in November. 7-0 means a top-15 ranking. Nebraska, 33-28.

Oct. 31: at Ohio State Buckeyes (Columbus, OH)

810. 45. 812. Prediction. 16

If it weren’t for Georgia-Florida down in Jacksonville, College GameDay would make the trek to Columbus for this game. Two top-15 teams going at it in the Big Ten, what’s not to love? Too bad Ohio State beats the ever-living snot out of Nebraska from the opening kickoff and never looks back. This will be the worst loss of the season for Big Red by far. Ohio State, 45-16.
