Nebraska football is officially back..according to its September slate.

Sept. 5: Purdue Boilermakers

35. 810. Prediction. 20. 848

Nebraska’s Week 1 opener vs. the Purdue Boilermakers will be a tone-setter for the season. If the Cornhuskers come out strong, it will signify this program is finally back on the upswing. Purdue isn’t great, so look for starting quarterback Adrian Martinez to have one of his better games of the season right out of the gate. The Cornhuskers roll en route to 1-0. Nebraska, 35-20.

Sept. 12: Central Michigan Chippewas

403. 31. 810. Prediction. 23

Though it’s not a Power 5 affair, Nebraska will get a solid Group of 5 matchup vs. Jim McElwain’s Central Michigan Chippewas in Week 2. Central Michigan may contend in the MAC this fall, but this is the type of game you have to want to be back in the eyes of your fans if you’re Nebraska. It’s closer than you’d expect, but a strong fourth quarterback leads the Cornhuskers. Nebraska, 31-23.

Sept. 19: South Dakota State Jackrabbits

With two wins in their back pocket at home, Nebraska will have no problem putting away the South Dakota State Jackrabbits playing up from the FCS level. It might be a sleepy first quarter in Lincoln, but a pair of pick-sixes by the Blackshirts will propel Nebraska to an easy victory where most of the starters rest in the second half. Nebraska, 38-14.

Sept. 26: Cincinnati Bearcats

23. 830. 27. 810. Prediction

This is a huge game for both schools. The Cincinnati Bearcats are a New Year’s Six Bowl contender out of the AAC. Nebraska may not be as good as Luke Fickell’s team, but Martinez and the boys came to play in this late September game. Nebraska forces a turnover on downs inside of two minutes to secure victory for Big Red. At 4-0, Nebraska looks to be back. Nebraska, 27-23.
