5 reasons the Ravens will regress in 2020
4. Their pass rush is still a weakness
The Ravens were really good on defense last season, but they benefited massively from playing with leads. Despite facing a ton of obvious passing situations, Baltimore’s defense still struggled to take down the opposing quarterback.
Matthew Judon led the team in sacks last season with 9.5, but he’s not what anyone would classify as an All-Pro edge rusher. He will struggle to repeat his 2019 performance from his outside linebacker position this year.
The franchise hopes the trade for Calais Campbell will help to solidify the pass rush. In some ways, he’s just what their defensive front needs. His size will force other teams to double-team him on a regular basis. He’ll create space for teammates but may not rack up double-digit sacks on his own.
That puts a ton of pressure on guys like Derek Wolfe or rookie Justin Madubuike to put up borderline Pro Bowl seasons. Wolfe doesn’t have the ability to make that happen and it’s too soon for Madubuike to make that kind of contribution. The Ravens’ pass rush might be improved in 2020, but it’s still going to be a significant weakness.
