Overrated college football team from the ACC: Miami Hurricanes

To be honest, we don’t hate the Miami Hurricanes this season. However, there are way too many things in their way to have the second-highest odds in the ACC. They are tied with Virginia Tech at 12/1. Obviously, this is Clemson and everyone else, but 12/1 is still too good of odds when talking about Dabo Swinney, Trevor Lawrence and the rest of the Clemson Tigers.

The Hurricanes are dealing with transfer quarterback D’Eriq King. He is a wonderful dual-threat talent and could be really good for Miami this season. The issue here is King is brand new to the program and hasn’t had the opportunity to have a traditional offseason to learn the offense and his teammates in a practice setting.

Miami also brought in a new offensive coordinator in Rhett Lashlee to put in a spread offense. So, the Hurricanes are getting a new signal-caller in King and a whole new system to put around him. There’s no familiarity for these players, and the team has to basically start from scratch.

They have two interesting non-conference matchups in September with Michigan State and Temple. It’s not the easy 4-0 that some teams have scheduled. Even if Miami loses just one of those games, it would be a blow for them. A lot of the schedule goes their way, with Pittsburgh and North Carolina at home and no matchup against Clemson at all. That is unless they make it to the ACC Championship Game.

Even though the schedule goes their way, we just don’t like the makeup of the Hurricanes this year with the pandemic throwing things for a loop. In a normal year, we’d be all about jumping on the Miami train. However, there are too many things going haywire for the Hurricanes to just excel. We see teams who have more consistency in the lineup and the gameplan that is set up better to succeed.
