player. 48. Pick Analysis. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Chris Godwin. WR. 6. Scouting Report

It took some time for Godwin to realize the potential that was so obvious during his time at Penn State. However, he did so during his 2019 season and the results were spectacular.

Godwin finished the year with 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns on 86 catches for the Buccaneers.

He was second in DYAR and first in DVOA as he Mike Evans solidified their position as the most fearsome wide receiver duo in the league.

The 6’1″ and 209-pound Godwin has shown the ability to excel operating as a boundary receiver or in the ‘big slot’ role that is becoming increasingly popular in the modern NFL. His proficiency for making things happen after the catch has added to his value as a slot receiver, with Godwin averaging 7.1 yards after the catch in 2019, per NextGen Stats.

Godwin comfortably outperformed his expected YAC per reception of 4.8 yards and his versatile skill set will be critical in helping him live up to the heightened expectations that have come with the arrival of Tom Brady in Tampa Bay.

Brady’s proficiency as a downfield thrower at this point in his career is up for debate. Godwin, though, can excel in 2020 regardless of whether Brady excels pushing the ball deep and will undoubtedly have a key part to play in the Buccaneers’ quest to live up to their offseason hype.
