2. Washington Senators

From 1901-1960, the Senators were the D.C. area’s MLB team. Then they moved to Minnesota to become the Twins. An expansion team that became the Texas Rangers in 1971 followed and MLB baseball only came back to the region when the Montreal Expos became the Washington Nationals in 2005.

Reviving the Senators nickname would require a complete retooling of the colors and logo the Redskins have always used. In some light, that may not be a bad thing and it probably wouldn’t be a particular barrier to taking on the name.

Let’s start by imagining a silver helmet for the NFL’s Washington Senators, maybe with a red and blue stripe down the middle. Red and/or blue jerseys to go with a primary white, gray or silver jersey? As for a logo? Maybe an interlocking “W” and “S” (in cursive or another cool font?) overlayed on a rendition of a prominent building?

If the color scheme I’ve fleshed out for the possible Washington Senators NFL team seems familiar, that means you’ve seen the movie “The Replacements”. The fictional Washington Sentinels, led by quarterback Shane Falco (Keanu Reaves), had silver helmets and red jerseys.
