Cleveland Browns: 3 players who won’t be on the roster after 2020 season
By Scott Rogust
This really shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The New York Giants signed him to an albatross of a contract back in 2016, simply because they were desperate for a pass rusher. He wasn’t a world-destroyer like he was paid to be, but he put up decent numbers in his three seasons with the Giants. But his main hindrance was his ability to stay on the field.
Dorsey didn’t care, because he salivated at the thought of pairing Myles Garrett with Vernon, and mistakenly surrendered stud guard Kevin Zeitler for him.
To the surprise of no one, Vernon was unproductive last season and missed six games due to injury! Through 10 games, the veteran edge rusher posted 3.5 sacks while pressuring the quarterback 17 times. That’s not worth his high salary.
Vernon is only on the 2020 roster because of his high dead cap hit. Why would they lessen their cap this season by releasing him? Once the upcoming season reaches its end, Vernon will be referred to as an ex-Cleveland Brown.
