3B. Nolan Arenado. player. Colorado Rockies. 1. 108. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

The Cardinals have been fooling around with a potential Arenado trade for months, as he has reportedly grown tired of what he perceived to be “disrespect” for him within the Rockies organization. Trading for Arenado, who is locked up until the 2027 season due to the massive extension he signed, would announce to the rest of the MLB that the Cardinals are going to go big game hunting in the pursuit of a championship. The idea of Arenado hitting third in the St. Louis lineup with Paul Goldschmidt following him has to be an enticing thought for Cardinals fans and a nightmare for NL Central pitchers.

What could make this deal tricky is the fact that St. Louis loves to hoard prospects, and the Cardinals would basically need to gut their farm system while sending key components of their major league team to Colorado just to bring Arenado on board. For their efforts, however, they will be rewarded with one of the five best players in all of baseball, as he is simultaneously one of the best defensive players in the game and one of the league’s biggest and most consistent power threats.

The Cardinals can build a winner around him for a decade if they can get this trade done.
