3 players who deserve more credit for White Sox 2005 World Series win
Neal Cotts was one of two White Sox pitchers, along with Bobby Jenks, to appear in all four games during the World Series. That made sense considering he dominated during the 2005 regular season with a 1.94 ERA in 69 games.
Jenks stole the show as the flame-throwing closer, but it was Cotts who was the perfect setup man. The southpaw posted a 0.00 ERA in his four World Series games and even took home the win in Game 2 after Jenks blew the save.
Cotta was a true specialist in that he only faced six total batters even though he pitched in all four games.
2005 was the reliever’s third year in MLB and one of two years in which he would reach the postseason. He never ended up making an All-Star Game, but should be remembered by White Sox fans for his dominance during one of the best years in franchise history.
He did end up joining the crosstown rival Cubs in 2007, although it was no fault of his own as he was traded there. His best baseball came with the White Sox, and that is how baseball fans in Chicago will remember the lefty specialist.
