The St. Louis Cardinals received great contributions from three under-the-radar players in the 2011 World Series.

Texas Rangers fans don’t like to talk about the 2011 World Series. At least not the final two games of that year’s Fall Classic. What appeared to be an imminent victory turned into disaster in a matter of seconds.

The Rangers fell to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games after a Game 6 that featured one of the more iconic moments in World Series history. David Freese’s game-tying triple in the bottom of the ninth sent the game to extras and the rest is history.

Freese remains the most memorable player from that entire series. Yet the entire Cardinals team rallied together and the contributions came from all over the roster. The likes of Freese, Albert Pujols, Lance Berkman and Chris Carpenter were helped by some players who deserve much more credit.

It is easy to forget small moments from a series featuring one singular, memorable moment. But it is important to remember some of the small moments that led up to the more major ones. Let’s take a look at a few of those unsung heroes from the Cardinals who played a key role in helping bring a second title back to St. Louis in a five-year span.
