45. Pick Analysis. RB. 1. player. Scouting Report. Denver Broncos. Phillip Lindsay

Prior to the start of the 2020 league year, Phillip Lindsay was destined to be Denver’s starting running back of the future. He impressed as an undrafted free agent, and became a favorite of the Broncos fan base. However, those wishes turned to dust after the Broncos signed former Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon this offseason.

The decision was certainly a head-scratcher, especially since Lindsay has tallied over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons and averages 4.9 yards per carry. But then, everyone realized that Lindsay is set to become a restricted free agent after the upcoming season. It all began to make sense.

Lindsay proved that he’s worth starting running back money, but that’s something the Broncos and a vast amount of teams are unwilling to do in this current climate. That’s why Denver signed Gordon, because he’s coming off a career-low season (thanks to his holdout) and are only paying him $16 million over the next two years.

We’re confident in saying that Lindsay will earn a starting job in the NFL, but it won’t be in Denver. They view him as a complementary running back. Nothing more, nothing less.
