OT. Chris Hubbard. Scouting Report. player. 53. Pick Analysis. . 2

Chris Hubbard is another John Dorsey addition. The offensive tackle was surprisingly given a five-year, $36.5 million deal back in 2018 and proceeded to start all 16 games at right tackle.

Hubbard will also turn 30 years old before the start of the 2021 season and his deal features backloaded years with small dead cap values. His actual cap hit for 2021 is $8.13 million, while the dead cap figure is $2.26 million. This also clears him off the books before a 2022 season where he is an $8.6 million cap hit.

The Browns just drafted offensive tackle Jedrick Wills, who was a right tackle in college. He is expected to make the switch to left tackle, but Hubbard is still not a long-term piece in Cleveland given his age and contract. Kendall Lamm is a few years younger than Hubbard and could end up getting a majority of the playing time in 2021, or the Browns could draft a right tackle to get younger at both tackle spots.

Hubbard came to town at a time when the Browns were a disaster and just needed some sense of competency on offense. He did his job and has not been a total failure. The team just has to focus on retaining top talent and saving nearly $6 million by cutting Hubbard is too good a deal to pass up.
